MURWILLUMBAH CRICKET CLUB SELECTION POLICY FOR SENIOR GRADES

Introduction

MCC is committed to being a strong performer in all competitions.  To help achieve this selection criteria are essential as selection at times can be one of the most important and contentious issues for the Club and individuals.  Much of this policy will not be new, but will simply confirm and clarify certain informal practices that have already been used in the past.

Selection Committee Structure

The Selection Committee will consist of the following:

  • Chairman of Selectors (non-playing) if available

  • Club Coach

  • First, Second and Third XI Captains

If a non-playing selector can’t be sourced, the 1st Grade Captain will be the Chairman of Selectors.

The role of the Chairman will be to organise and chair selection meetings, and to ensure the selection policy is implemented.

Objectives of Selection

  • To be fair and consistent

  • To be made in the best interests of the team and Club and not based on personal relationships

  • To select the strongest XI for each grade in which the Club fields a team

Selection Criteria

Three key criteria constitute a player’s eligibility for selection.

1. Ability

For the more competitive grades of 1st and 2nd grade a player’s ability is the most important factor in deciding which team she/he is selected in.

2. Training Attendance

All players selected in 1st or 2nd grade are required to attend at least one training session per week.  If individuals cannot attend training, then it is compulsory for the individual to contact the Club Coach or Team Captain prior to training regarding their unavailability.

Failure to communicate training attendances will be seen as detrimental to the Team and could affect selection.

3. Attitude and Behaviour

Negative attitude towards training and game preparation will almost certainly result in non-selection.

Players are expected to be respectful and have the right attitude toward the club, administrators, captains, fellow players, umpires and opposing teams.

Adherence to the standards outlined in the Murwillumbah Panthers Strategic Clubhouse 2020-25 is an expectation of players in terms of their attitude and behaviour.
